Happy Easter! Okay, the temptations are way too much to ignore this Sunday. Go ahead, raid the basket. You can hop back on the diet trail Monday.
TODAY: EAT THE GOOD CANDY. DON’T WASTE CALORIES ON THE CHEAP STUFF. (PEEPS WOULD BE “CHEEP” CANDY SO THEY DON’T COUNT.)
If you are on a low carb diet like Atkins, you may start having leg cramps at night. I always seem to notice them after about a week. It usually signals that the diet is working. It’s caused by low calcium or potassium. With me, it seems to be calcium and taking a supplement usually stops them. Some people also say that drinking diet tonic water helps. Since vodka has zero carbs, you can have a nice cocktail before bed to really relax your muscles.
TODAY: DO SOME STRETCHING EXERCISES AND TRY A COUPLE OF SIT UPS THEN GET OUT FOR A BRISK WALK
I’ve done it before. I lost a lot of weight with it back before there were shelves filled with Atkins foods. The weight stayed off too, until I got lazy this past year and indulged like I was a teenager. I can’t help that I like great french fries. I’m not into sweets except for doughnuts and pastries. I love breads. So I have to enjoy them in moderation when I’m at a more ideal weight. But for now… they are off my list.
It may not be for you and you need to consult with your doctor before any diet. I did. He approved it for me. It was all the rage a few years ago. Then Dr. Atkins slipped on the ice and died of head injuries. Without the founder and because of severe market saturation of Atkins products, it fell out of favor. But I think it’s a great option.

TODAY: START READING LABELS FOR CARB CONTENT (CALORIES TOO)
There is no sense in trying to start a diet during the holidays. Go ahead, eat and imbibe. Sit around and watch those DVDs you get. I’ll start nagging you the Monday after the new year. THIS is going to be the year to get back in better shape! So I’m going to nag you until you back to a healthy weight. To get ready maybe ease up a little on the calories now so there is less to lose. I’ve heard we average a five pound gain over the holidays! Don’t overdo it or you’ll have that much more to lose to get back to needing to lose weight.
By now, if there’s any left, the Halloween candy at the stores is marked down to about 75% off. I know the temptation is hard to resist and the savings are fantastic, but walk on by the display and congratulate yourself for your control. Besides, all the good stuff is gone now anyway. (How much candy corn does anybody really eat?) The temptation is the real trick of the season that will not treat your waistline well.
TODAY: DON’T BUY BARGAIN CANDY… OR ANY OTHER CANDY!
A study of sedentary older adults found that after walking for 45 minutes three times per week for six months they performed substantially better on several cognitive tasks than those who did other forms of exercise like stretching or strengthening. The study published in Nature said that reserachers think that their improved cardiorespiratory fitness increased blood flow to the brain, which helped improve brain function. So walking can enhance your mind and make your diet matter.
TODAY: WALK
You may have one of those pedometers and really don’t know what the numbers can mean to you. Well, 2,000 to 4,000 steps equals 1 to 2 miles. Do that and nothing else and you can still expect to lose about five pounds per year. Combine it with reduced calories to make those numbers really count.
TODAY: WALK 2,000 STEPS.
